QUALIFICATIONS

Recognize Your Calling

It is very important for Music Team members to feel that they are “called and anointed” to the ministry of worship. We believe in the operation of the Gifts of the Holy Spirit in the order of service at restoration life through Jesus.

Spiritual Growth

Team members are encouraged to be a discipled and discipling Christ follower. Everyone involved in the Creative Teams are seen as leaders to the congregation.

(Colossians 1:9-10; Colossians 2:6-7; Ephesians 4:13-15; Ephesians 4:22-24; Romans 15:1-2)

Talents and Skills

We have a effort and environment of excellence, so our musicians and vocalists are expected to have a level of skill that lends the leading of the Holy Spirit in our experiences and does not create a distraction to listeners of the worship and word of God.

Every Creative Team member is expected to have open hearts to receive advice, correction, training, and committed to become proficiently skilled at their ministry of service.

2 Timothy 4:2 teaches us that God honors the discipline of preparation and diligence. The Creative Team is committed to grow confidence in its team members to service at their positions with excellence. Equipping members at the team leaders best ability with an expectation of team members self-practice and study.

EXPECTATIONS

Make it stand out.

Probationary Period.

New team members are required to join the worship team for three (3) rehearsals on Thursday evenings at 7:00 p.m. before leading a position on a Sunday worship experience in order to learn the style of music the team plays and most importantly, build a relationship with the team members.

Personal Practice.

Team members are expected to commit time to individual practice to prepare for group rehearsals and worship experiences, recognizing that this worship ministry requires a large time commitment and it is wasteful of the team’s time to be unprepared for rehearsal.

Worship Rehearsal.

All team members are required to attend the weekly rehearsal and worship experience, being punctual and faithful in their attendance.

Communication.

If a team member is unable to make it for a practice or Sunday morning worship experience, they must give the worship team leader sufficient notice so that any necessary adjustments can be made, or substitute can be found.

Personal Worship Time.

We encourage a personal relationship with Jesus Christ that is consistent and growing through prayers and bible study. We are primarily worshippers, and we cannot lead others where we have not gone ourselves.

Flexibility.

Team members need to be flexible. Things can and will change with a moment’s notice and it is our job to be prepared and ready for anything that could happen, leading in a positive manner through those changes.

COMMITMENT TO A GODLY LIFESTYLE

Team members are expected to live a lifestyle that is above reproach, avoiding even the appearance of evil (1Timothy 3). Being a minister, especially ones who are “up front,” adds extra responsibility because people see worship ministers as examples of what a Christ follower should be like. Therefore, it is imperative that we consider the way we treat each other and carefully guard our hearts from impurities and pride.

It is God’s desire and our desire to see our worship team members living a victorious Christ-filled life, free from bondage. If there are any addictions or issues with which you struggle, please be open with your leaders or pastor. UNION is a messy church don’t be ashamed of any down fall. We care about your health in all areas of life.

UNION Houston Leadership ETHOS

As an essential part of UNION Houston Leadership family, you have a responsibility to develop and exhibit mature Christian behavior. This should be the basic premise of your desire to participate in a servant-leader position here at UNION Houston.

While serving the Body of Christ as a servant-leader at UNION Houston, you pledge to be present a good appearance at all times. In both attire and behavior, you should strive to demonstrate Biblical standards in all situations.

As Christians, the way we present ourselves to others is vital importance to the way others perceive Christ. Our conduct should never be an embarrassment to Christ but should exemplify the best qualities of a mature believer and servant-leader.

Exemplifying the highest moral commitment, Union Houston’s Servant-Leaders are to maintain a discipline life of Bible reading, studying, prayer (faster), and obeying.

You must also refrain from such things as:

  • Profanity – this is much more than cuss words, what we say matters even on social media, about politics, religions and people groups

  • Addictive habits like smoking or chewing tobacco – public intoxication or appearance of drinking on social media

  • Indulging much wine or other alcoholic beverages (Vodka, Tequila… etc.)

  • Gambling

  • Dishonest gain

  • Illicit drugs (Marijuana, Heroin, Methamphetamine…etc.)

  • Pornography

  • Sexual immorality, and all behaviors which might cause Christ to grieve and others to stumble

By providing an example in speech and action, we encourage others to grow in Christ Servant-Leader themselves. This is a way of life measured by the heart and commitment of each Servant-Leader in UNION Houston family. We should regard it as an essential part of our development, not as an imposition or restriction.

WE ARE A TEAM (A TEAM OF LEADERS)

We are a helping team.

therefore, each member will take care of one another and hold each other accountable, this even includes holding your leaders of the ministry accountable.

Love is our language

So we hit conflict head on. We expect every team member to resolve conflict amongst each other. However, if necessary pastoral and executive leaders will be brought in to resolve any divisive matters. When conflict arises, we will come in with an open heart and an open mind, and lastly with love to resolve any sort of conflict. It’s never a competition about who’s right or who’s wrong, nor is it about pointing fingers at each other to support a fault, it’s the opportunity to acknowledge one another and help one another to grow in love, to grow as leaders and as a team. (Ephesians 4:26; Ephesians 4:31-32; Proverbs 15:1; Matthew 5:9; Philippians 2:4)

Your voice.

All members have the right to have their voice heard; If a member believes to have great ideas that will help improve our team’s delegation, planning, growth, or fellowship, do not hesitate to present your ideas to your leaders and worship team.

Passion

As part of the team, we take your calling and your passion seriously. If you are experiencing a sudden loss of passion for your calling and feel that you no longer belong, please contact your leaders immediately. There are moments in life where we cannot see what is next, but as leaders and as a team, we will all make sure to do what’s necessary to help any member with a loss of passion to find it once again. (Proverbs 3:5-6)
